Peel & Stick Tin Can End Named Sustainable Product of the Year

No machines. Less waste. More reuse. Our Peel & Stick Tin Can End is this year’s Sustainable Product of the Year.

Our Innovative Tin Can Closure Recognized for Sustainability Benefits

We’re excited to share that our Peel & Stick tin can end has been named the 2025 Sustainable Product of the Year by the Sustainable Business Council.

The Sustainable Business Awards recognize organizations leading the way in sustainability, innovation, and leadership.

Peel & Stick SBC Award

“The winners of this award embody the vision and innovation required to shape a sustainable future,” said Jessy Servi Ortiz, Executive Director of SBC. “They represent Midwest leaders who not only integrate sustainability into their organizations but also drive meaningful change through their products and services.”

The Peel & Stick is doing exactly that. Applied by hand to a pre-seamed tin can, this adhesive closure eliminates the hassle, expense, and maintenance of renting or purchasing a seamer machine. And because it includes a degassing valve, it offers coffee roasters a convenient and more cost-effective way to utilize tin cans as a curbside recyclable packaging option and offer refill programs.

It's already making waves in the coffee industry, earning the award for Best New Product at three Coffee Fests: Orlando 2023, New York 2024, and New Orleans 2024.

The Lifecycle Data That Surprised Us

Tin cans have always been exciting to offer, not only because we developed the ability to print custom artwork directly on the can, but because they’re reusable, retro, durable, and 100% curbside recyclable.

But sustainability isn’t just about how packaging ends its journey. It’s about its entire lifecycle.

In 2022, we underwent a comprehensive materiality assessment and lifecycle analysis across all our product lines. What we learned surprised us: tin cans create significant emissions at the beginning of their lifecycle due to the energy required to produce them.

The key to unlocking their full sustainability potential wasn’t recycling — it was reuse.

And the data made it clear:

  • After just one reuse, emissions across the entire tin can lifecycle (supplier, manufacturing, use, and end-of-life) dropped by half.

  • With every additional reuse, emissions decreased another 18% on average.

In other words: the longer a tin can stays in circulation, the more powerful its sustainability benefits become. The Peel & Stick tin can end makes that reuse cycle possible.

Better for Businesses, Better for the Planet

Studio MPLS Designed Coffee 5.5 Roastar Tin Can with Peel and Stick ClosureBefore the Peel & Stick arrived on the scene, roasters had only one option: rent or purchase a heavy, pricey seamer. For small businesses, this was a major barrier.

This old system created several challenges:

  • Renting required shipping a 50-lb machine to and from a roaster’s facility 1–2 times a year.

  • Frequent shipping caused wear and tear, repair needs, and scheduling stress.

  • The disposable seaming lids added extra material, cost, and emissions.

The Peel & Stick eliminates all of that.  No machine. No maintenance. No extra materials. Just a lightweight, hand-applied closure that keeps contents fresh.

It also opens the door to buy-back programs and in-store refill stations, creating a circularity between customers and retailers. Roasters can accept used tin cans back from customers, refill them, and apply a new closure. This reuse results in reduced emissions since fewer tin cans are produced and shipped, and no heavy seamer equipment is necessary.
