Prepress Technician

Wausau, WI


The Prepress Technician is responsible to prepare and submit artwork files to the press, troubleshoot press file issues, edit artwork files as needed, perform press checks for color approval and provide pdf proofs to the customer for review in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare/Setup artwork files for press according to order and job specifications.

  • Adjust color in artwork files to match to a specific color(s).

  • Perform press checks in production to approve desired color.

  • Make edits and adjustments to artwork files as needed to make the artwork process easy for customers and communicate to customer on changes that are required moving forward.

  • Process files through preflight software when necessary.

  • Set-up artwork files to match Roastar and customer specifications.

  • Create pdf proofs for customer approval within a 24-hour timeframe.

  • Work in multiple programs; organizing and distributing artwork files on the Prepress server.

Customer Relations

  • Communicate with customers in a positive and professional manner via chat, phone, and email on project/artwork details.

  • Collaborate with Sales Reps in a positive and professional manner. Assist them in supporting customers with artwork file set-up, questions, and issues.


  • Suggest solutions and innovative ideas to make the Prepress workflows more efficient.

  • Participate in weekly Prepress L10 meeting, holding yourself accountable to completing to-do’s, providing feedback, and staying engaged in company/customer related issues.

  • Maintain effective communication with management.

  • Interact with production, scheduling, and quality in a professional manner.

Leadership & Development

  • Attend Roastar training on internal process updates, software changes, team building, etc.

  • Participate in continued learning to enhance sales and product knowledge skills.

  • Act as a professional representative of Roastar, Inc. at all times.


  • Follow all Company safety policies and safety procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Follow all Company policies, rules, and regulations.

  • Support Company programs, goals, and initiatives.

Education, Experience, Specific Skills, and Certifications

  • Associates Degree in related field required.

  • Experience in pre-press, graphic arts or printing environment required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of color required.

  • Experience in HP Indigo Prepress environment desired.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign).

  • Proficiency in Mac environment.

  • Advanced communication skills to include: person to person, large group presentation, written and phone.

  • Exceptional attention to detail to compose, type and proof material accurately.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and organize workload to meet deadlines.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Ability to ask for help when needed.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
